I am so sorry that I can’t welcome you in person to my site. I spend a lot of time these days trying to figure out what ChatGPT, Bard, and other chatbots can and can’t do, and what they are up-to. I regret to say that while I am greatly impressed by some of the thing that these chatbots can do, I have grave concerns about their performance in some of the specific areas of interest to me. More on this on other posts on this site.

Visiting the site you will find out that we are very relaxed here about formalities, regulations, etc., but … we are very strict about certain things. So as long as you observe the road signs and navigate carefully, you’ll find out that this place is very friendly.

If this is your first visit to the site, you may wish to consult the short visitors guide provided at our visitors center that also operates as a Help facility (see also the Help button in the left sidebar).

I wish you a very pleasant and interesting visit.

Postscript

Given this website’s title, it makes sense to entice two state of the art chatbots to write their very own welcome statement to the site. For reasons to be discussed in the page About, I have chosen ChatGPT and Bard for this important task. Here is the query I posed to the two chatbots regarding this matter, and their immediate (practically instantaneously).

First, let us take a look at the proposal composed by ChatGPT in response to my request. This is a screenshot of the chat (Note that there is no time stamp!).

I liked this statement, but I thought that ChatGPT can do much better. So I continued the chat:

I then asked Bard to compose its own proposal.

And of course the follow up.

After visiting the site, you’ll have to judge for yourself which proposal, if any, adequately describes the site and its content.

My general impression of these proposals is that their authors are almost as enthusiastic about the site as I am! I may invite them for a second opinion on this matter.

What’s next?

If this is your first visit to the site, I suggest that you read the About page for general information … about the site. If you don’t like reading About pages, you way wish to read the Motivation page for information about what … motivated me, a 78 years old retiree, to embark on this project. And if you are allergic to motivational melodramas, then perhaps you should press the Help button, or read the Guide page.

If you are a “learn by example” person, consider surfing to the Examples page where I discuss 6 specific examples of conversations had with ChatGPT and Bard.

Finally, if you are here by accident, looking for some games to play, I suggest that you visit the Dynamic Programming page, and watch games linked to that page.

Wherever you go next, surf carefully and have fun!
